The Carmack Boulevard Church of Christ beginning years started in the home of Haskin and Alice Hardison in the early 1900s. The congregation was birthed out of Burn Springs Church of Christ located on the corner of Smith and Bridge St. The land for Burn Springs was purchased from Carrie Akins for $115 and the first building was erected in September of 1924. Burn Springs had several ministers who served the congregation during those early years: Monroe Jackson, Peter Russel, Hill Holt, A.C. Holt, Marshall Keeble, Paul English T.H. Busby and David Shanks. As the congregation approached the 1960s James Dennis, Willie Brown and Fred Dowell served as ministers. The elders during those years were Winfield Booker, Raymond Cobble, John Harris, W.P. Kennedy and Boyd Stone. The deacons were William Duke and Alvin Wilson.

As the congregation grew the leadership realized a need for a larger facility and land was purchased on Carmack Boulevard. The spring of 1970 ground breaking ceremonies were held and the building was completed in the fall of 1971. The new facility included a worship space that could seat over 400, nursery, secretary’s office, minister’s study, 8 classrooms, kitchen and fellowship hall. The minister during the establishing of this new congregation in Columbia was Fred Dowell. The size and space of this facility during this time in history was very rare and unique.

Other ministers who have served the congregation from the move to Carmack Boulevard are: Bobby Richey, Richard Amey, Ervin Denkins, Thomas Frierson & James Oldham. Men who have served as elders are Louis Booker, Carl McFall and Webster Sparkman. Men who have served as deacons are Elmer Bellafant, Wilbur Hardison and Jeffrey Wilson.

Our current minister is Bro. Demetrius Nelson who has energized and enthused our congregation to a greater commitment of service. Bro. Nelson brings an emphasis on family through his example of love for his wife, Shounika and children, Alexis and Aiden. God has done some amazing things in the life of our congregation and we look forward to all He has in store for our future. This is our Moment!
